Properly Align Your Smileyoung women smiling

It can be embarrassing to deal with misaligned teeth. However, not only can a crooked smile affect your confidence, but also negatively impact your oral health. At Just Smile Dental, Dr. Webley provides orthodontic treatment for those looking to straighten their crooked or uneven teeth.

Our Everett dentist will work with you to create a treatment plan so you can receive the smile of your dreams. Read below to discover how orthodontics can help enhance your smile and improve your oral health.

What Is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a dental specialty that addresses diagnosing, preventing, and correcting dental abnormalities and bites issues. While orthodontics can be considered mostly cosmetic dentistry, it’s important to fix these problems for a healthy mouth.

Orthodontics allows our dentists to treat malocclusions (bad bites). This is when a client bites down and their teeth don’t line up correctly. We also treat crooked and misaligned teeth, and jaw pain, as well as focus on the development of your facial bones.

Reasons for Orthodontics

Dr. Webley recommends orthodontics for patients who are suffering from any of the following:

  • Overbite or underbite
  • Overcrowding
  • Uneven spaces
  • Crossbite or open bite
  • Jaw misalignment

Teeth that are crooked or don’t line up are the perfect place for bacteria to grow. They can also be hard to clean, leading to cavities and other problems down the line. The goal of treating teeth with orthodontics is to ensure a healthy mouth in the future. It’s important to close any gaps between teeth and to make sure that they all line up correctly. Sometimes, teeth are crooked and must be straightened up in the mouth. Orthodontics can also improve eating and even a client’s speech in some cases.

ClearCorrect Aligner Therapy

At our Everett office, Dr. Webley offers ClearCorrect aligner therapy. This treatment utilizes a series of customized clear aligner trays to discreetly straighten your teeth to achieve a healthy, straighter smile. On average, the treatment can take one year, half the time as traditional metal braces. Though, you’ll begin to see results in two or three months.

Treatment Process

When you come in for your initial consultation, Dr. Webley will perform a dental examination before deciding if ClearCorrect is right for you. From there, he’ll take impressions and X-rays of your mouth with our digital scanning. These scans will allow us to see what your teeth look like and make a 3D simulation of how your smile will look after the aligner therapy.

Once your clear aligners are ready, you’ll come back to our Everett office. Each set of aligners should be worn for about two weeks at a time and at least 20 to 22 hours a day. You’ll also visit Dr. Webley once every four to six weeks to ensure your treatment is progressing correctly.

Diet

Fortunately, with your clear aligners, there are no diet restrictions. You just need to make sure you take off your aligners prior to eating or drinking anything other than water. You must also rinse your mouth before putting your trays back to ensure no harmful bacteria are left before putting them back on again.

How can these problems be fixed? Braces or clear aligners are the most common treatment though clients may also need headgear, plates, and more. If you have any questions about orthodontics, feel free to contact us today at (425) 341-1111. We would be happy to answer your questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear aligner therapy is more comfortable than traditional braces. Though you may experience discomfort in the first week of wearing them, this will go away as your teeth slowly shift into alignment. If you’re experiencing discomfort, this can be alleviated by taking over-the-counter pain medications and cold compresses.

In some cases, it’s possible to switch from braces to clear aligners. Depending on your orthodontic needs, you may benefit from clear aligner therapy. We recommend scheduling your consultation with Dr. Webley so he can evaluate your oral health and determine if you can switch.

When you take good care of your aligners, they’ll be sure to last until you start your next set. Dr. Webley provides some guidelines to follow to ensure your trays stay clear and clean:

  • Clean your trays at least once a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush
  • Eliminate bacteria using an antimicrobial soap to clean your aligners
  • Store your aligners in a safe place when you’re not wearing them to prevent damage
  • Soak your aligners regularly to avoid discoloration
  • Brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and rinse with water after meals
  • Rinse your aligners before placing them back in your mouth
