What Is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a dental specialty that addresses diagnosing, preventing, and correcting dental abnormalities and bites issues. While often associated with cosmetic dentistry, the significance of orthodontics extends beyond aesthetics to ensure a healthy and functional mouth.
This dental specialty enables our practitioners to address malocclusions, commonly known as bad bites, where a person’s teeth don’t align correctly when biting down. We also treat crooked and misaligned teeth, and jaw pain, as well as focus on the development of your facial bones. Through comprehensive orthodontic care, we aim to enhance your smile’s appearance and functionality while promoting optimal oral health.
Reasons for Orthodontics
Dr. Webley recommends orthodontics for patients who are suffering from any of the following orthodontic problems:
- Crooked teeth
- Overbite or underbite
- Overcrowding
- Uneven spaces
- Crossbite or open bite
- Jaw misalignment
If you’re suffering from any of the listed above, call our office at (425) 341-1111 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Webley.

Orthodontic Treatment Options at Just Smile Dental
ClearCorrect Aligner Therapy
At our Everett office, Dr. Webley offers ClearCorrect aligner therapy. This treatment utilizes a series of customized clear aligner trays to discreetly straighten your teeth to achieve a healthy, straighter smile. On average, the treatment can take one year, half the time as traditional metal braces. Though, you’ll likely begin to see results in two or three months.
Invisalign
We also offer state-of-the-art Invisalign treatments to discreetly and effectively straighten your teeth. Invisalign utilizes clear, virtually invisible aligners, providing a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional braces.
Similar to ClearCorrect aligner therapy, Invisalign offers a less noticeable alternative to traditional braces. The average treatment duration is approximately one year, which is often half the time required for conventional metal braces. Results are usually visible within two to three months, allowing you to enjoy the transformative effects of Invisalign in a shorter time frame.
How can these problems be fixed? Braces or clear aligners are the most common treatment though clients may also need headgear, plates, and more. If you have any questions about orthodontics, feel free to contact us today at (425) 341-1111. We would be happy to answer your questions.
Orthodontic Treatment Process
When you come in for your initial consultation, Dr. Webley will perform a dental examination before deciding if ClearCorrect or Invisalign is right for you. From there, he’ll take impressions and X-rays of your mouth with our digital scanning. These scans will allow us to see what your teeth look like and make a 3D simulation of how your smile will look after the aligner therapy.
Once your clear aligners are ready, you’ll return to our Everett office. Each set of aligners should be worn for about two weeks at a time and at least 20 to 22 hours a day. You’ll also visit Dr. Webley once every four to six weeks to ensure your treatment is progressing correctly.
Clear Aligner Therapy Guidelines
Embarking on clear aligner therapy is an exciting step toward achieving a straighter, healthier smile. To make the most of your treatment, consider the following guidelines:
- Consistent Wear: Wear your clear aligners consistently, as prescribed by your orthodontist. Consistent wear is crucial for achieving desired results within the estimated treatment time.
- Remove Before Eating: With your clear aligners, there are no diet restrictions. Before consuming any food or beverages (except water), remove your aligners to prevent damage or staining. This ensures a seamless and hygienic orthodontic experience.
- Rinse After Eating: After eating, rinse your mouth thoroughly before reinserting your aligners. This practice helps eliminate any residual food particles and bacteria, maintaining oral health during treatment.
- Keep Aligners Clean: Clean your aligners regularly using a soft toothbrush and mild soap or the recommended cleaning solution provided by your orthodontist. This helps prevent the buildup of bacteria and ensures clear aligners remain transparent.
- Store Safely: When not in use, store your aligners in their case to protect them from damage or loss. Avoid placing them in napkins or pockets, where they may be easily misplaced or damaged.
- Regular Check-ups: Attend scheduled orthodontic check-ups to monitor your progress and address any concerns. Regular visits allow adjustments to be made to your treatment plan, ensuring optimal results.
- Maintain Oral Hygiene: Continue practicing good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly. Clean teeth contribute to the effectiveness of the aligners and promote overall oral health.
- Communication with Dentist or Orthodontist: Maintain open communication with your orthodontist. If you experience any issues or have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out for guidance and support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Crooked or misaligned teeth create ideal conditions for bacterial growth and can pose challenges in maintaining proper oral hygiene, leading to cavities and other dental issues. The primary objective of orthodontic treatment is to ensure a healthy future for your mouth.
Closing gaps between teeth and ensuring proper alignment are crucial aspects addressed by orthodontics. Additionally, straightening teeth can enhance not only oral health but also improve eating habits and, in some cases, contribute to improved speech for our patients.
Clear aligner therapy is more comfortable than traditional braces. Though you may experience discomfort in the first week of wearing them, this will go away as your teeth slowly shift into alignment. If you’re experiencing discomfort, this can be alleviated by taking over-the-counter pain medications and cold compresses.
In some cases, it’s possible to switch from braces to clear aligners. Depending on your orthodontic needs, you may benefit from clear aligner therapy. We recommend scheduling a consultation with your dentist or orthodontist so they can evaluate your oral health and determine if you can switch.
Contact your orthodontist immediately if you lose or break an aligner. Depending on the stage of treatment, your orthodontist will guide you on whether to move to the next set or replace the lost/broken aligner.
